Abstract

The present study was carried out to determine the physico- chemical characteristics of water in mangrove ecosystem of Manakudy estuary, South west coast of India, for a period from June 2012 to May 2013. The study revealed that the physico- chemical parameters like ambient temperature, water temperature, transparency, hydrogen ion concentration, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, salinity, dissolved oxygen, carbonate, bicarbonate and nutrients nitrite, nitrate, phosphate, silicate and chlorides exhibited considerable seasonal and spatial variations. The study exemplified the fact that the Manakudy mangrove ecosystem is in a good state of health.
