Abstract

Beta radioactivity in underground water (wells and boreholes) collected in some selected areas of Nassarawa town was investigated. The gross beta content of the selected wells and boreholes was measured and the activity concentrations were determined using ISO 9696 and 9697 respectively. Results obtained shows that the concentration of beta activity is relatively high in well water than boreholes compared with the maximum contaminant limit showing that well water in these areas is not safe for human consumption.

Key Words
Activity, Contaminant limit, Effective dose, Gross beta
